Our Story

About Bar-He Ranch

Welcome to Bar-He Ranch; we are a husband and wife team dedicated to being responsible stewards of the land while raising quality livestock. The ranch is located east of Prineville, Oregon, in the foothills of the Ochocos. Bar-He Ranch remains committed to responsible and sustainable land-use practices. The ranch is spring-fed and abundant with native bunch grasses. The ranch uses rotational grazing to increase forage productivity. Without fire, juniper woodlands began expanding and dominating the grasslands. Juniper restoration work is critical on the ranch in regaining pre-fire suppression conditions that increase quality forage for wildlife and our livestock.

We have carefully selected our cattle for breeding the best qualities into future generations. Our mother cows and bulls all have exceptional temperament, ideal conformation, and hardiness. We are grateful to be a part of this unique breed.

Our Brand

Our brand is the Hopi Nakwách symbol which represents brotherhood. It’s meant to symbolize the joined hands of two tribal elders, who made a pact of a lifelong friendship with each other, thereby bringing peace to their people and the land. Our goal at Bar-he ranch is to live by this symbol in hopes of bringing peace to the land and animals that reside on it.

OUr Name

Bar-He Ranch

Băr'-he is the Shoshoni word for elk (Cervus nelsoni) an animal that we cherish. Bar-He Ranch is located in the foothills of the Ochocos. A number of Shoshoni tribes called the Ochoco mountains home and described it as a sacred place abundant with wildlife and exquisite landscapes. We cherish our beautiful land and the wildlife that reside on it. We will do our part in protecting and persevering flora and fauna respectfully and beneficially to the land.
